When you come across a belly dance school, you don’t know anything about it or remotely what goes on behind closed doors in a class. So why not do some research first.
NB: Please be aware and take care from teachers who run other belly dance teachers down in any way. As a professional she should be confident enough in her abilities to be able to teach and share her love for middle eastern dance and that includes to fellow belly dance teachers.
Call the belly dance teacher that will be giving the lessons where you will be attending (don’t feel you only need to phone one, phone around until you are happy).
Be specific with what you would like know and ask the following questions to gain a clearer understanding:
- Where are the classes held, on what day and the times
- The monthly fee as well as the per lesson fee
- Ask about the different levels and at which level you would fit into
- If you have any health related issues such as back ache, pregnancy or bad knees (this is important as the belly dance teacher should be able to advise on these)
- What to wear to class
- Ask her if she has a website whereby you can obtain any or all information necessary that you might require and more to see what the school is like and what they offer
Being a professional belly dance teacher, she should be very patient with you and answer all of the questions that you might have. After all her response to you can reflect who she is as a person and how she will be during a lesson.
